Potter Mania

The Potter mania officially kicked off royally tonite and to confess, I haven’t read a single Potter book till date…arrgggh..blasphemy..I am the worst muggle of all…OK folks, I admit I haven’t yet delved into the Hogwarts world. I guess I had my share of kiddie books when I ran out of the entire Enid Blyton series (and why don’t we get any of her books in the US beats me…talk about an open market). The inner reflections of Rowling’s world surely signal a turning point in this generation’s book wormish etiquettes.

But frankly, I find it very heart warming that a hard copy..a printed page still rules over the online digital scrolling text. Call me orthodox, but I still love the feel of crisp page and counts as one of my favorite smells in the world. The rush at Borders was one of the unprecedented sights I have seen in the US. I do consider Americans very laid back and hyper sensitive on stupid issues. But this surely was an revelation. Kids of all ages with their parents in tow lined up (mind you, peacefully and orderly unlike the line I stood in to watch a pathetic K3G – also in the US) to lay their hands on the brand new Order of the Phoenix. Nope. I did not buy one. I was there just to witness the event. Something to tell my grandkids about. Yes ! I was there to witness the 12:01 release of Harry Potter’s 5th chronicle on the shortest night of 2003…maybe only to hear back in return that..”yeah yeah grandpa, I just downloaded the 57th chronicle on my fingertop.”

Amen.
