Venison Ring in Mumbai?

Do we have more Salmans in the city of Mumbai? My brother emailed me yesterday informing that several deer have died in the pathetically-maintained Byculla Zoo, Mumbai. The official story has attributed their death to a strange incident that dogs that crept inside the enclosure gave the bucks a heart attack. Now when a weird story that smacks of gross negligence is the official line, I wonder what the real deal might be. Incidentally a HC Panel is also probing the matter.
My brother further informed me that there are also talks that a venison ring might be at play here. I am shocked if that is true. If hunting down endangered species wasn’t enough, poachers selling deer meat are now targeting zoos. The corruptibility of government officials has reached atrocious levels that lives of the animals they have agreed to protect are compromised.

If deer meat is indeed in demand, then let providers have deer farms to legally sell and market their wares but if I understand the Wildlife Protection Act correctly, certain species that are on the verge of extinction are protected by the law and no matter how much you crave their meat, it is off limits. I hope the guilty are booked and punished appropriately. I wish they ask for the death sentence, just like our Sallu bhaiyya did few weeks back.

did they check the LDL and HDL levels? Dogs and bad cholestrol make for a potent combination. :)
on a more serious note, we really need to start taking care of our wildlife. from ranthambore to byculla we have shown ourselves to be extremely inefficient at protecting our treasures. i believe we have now tied up with the uk to help improve the situation

Soothsayer, I even doubt any autopsy will be done. Protection of wildlife seems to rank pretty low on our priority list right now. But let us hope that this incident is a wakeup call.
