Tony, that has nothing to do with blogging engine. It all depends on the CSS.
The advantage of wordpress is the vast availability of exciting plugins, and the ease of making one's own, since wordpress is open source.
I recently shifted to wordpress and the experience has been amazing.

Somehow I find MT blogs a litle more cleaner or neat, though I haven’t quite gathered how? But that said, we are continuously looking to increasing participation, not always to successful ends. Thanks for your compliments though.

BD, I agree that DesiPundit may not be entirely Web 2.0 (or whatever defines that) for reasons you mention. It's not fully participatory (something that we see in Digg), and I understand all this is necessary to maintain standards.
But on certain occasions it indeed showed web 2.0 characteristics.
1. The recent wiki experiment on articles on blogging.
2. Issue based posts like IIPM and Cobra Sting that collected posts from blogosphere related to the issue.
However, Desipundit's aim, I think, is not to prove itself as web 2.0, but to showcase a consolidation of the Indian blogosphere. And I think it's doing a damn good job at that.

I’m not particularly sure whether DesiPundit, as a whole, could qualify as web 2.0 (though I accept web 2.0 definition is fuzzy, and many people still consider it as a myth :P ). Mostly because I have been seeing lot of cool WP blogs than I have seen MT blog. Also, the open-source WP community is great and you can find answers to any question you have almost instantly, either on Codex forums or via WP bloggers.

Tony, I moved from Typepad to WP. BTW, why did you shifted to WP. Somehow I find MT blogs a litle more cleaner or neat, though I haven't quite gathered how? Just a perception... Even I have been thinking of moving to my own space, your blog was the reason i always though MT was cool.

With the wiki and stuff, it indeed is web 2.0 never mind the list.. lol, and the banner seemed rounded enough..

BTW, why did you shifted to WP.
