Nerve Endings Firing Away

I thought about an innovative experience the other day while watching Saving Private Ryan (again!) Movie theaters in Japan are offering a more complete movie experience — smells synchronized to certain scenes of a movie. I remember reading about this as a kid in the Russian magazine Misha and Techdirt also confirms that it is not a completely new idea.

Talk is that the Colin Farrell Oscar-winning-nominated movie, The New World will feature “a “floral scent” during a love scene, a mix of peppermint and rosemary during a sad scene and other aromatics.” Now getting back to what I was thinking, would it make your experience of a movie more real when you smell the stink of the burning flesh in the killing fields of Saving Private Ryan or is that just disgusting?
