Stay Away from Negative People

Kathy Sierra gives an excellent rationale for not sticking around angry or negative people and as Instapundit says, that includes nasty blog comments as well. I do my share of staying off blogs or other media that I consider repugnant and in an individualistic world, that works great for me.
By that logic, moderating or banning comments is perfectly legit. I guess I can understand why some bloggers chose to switch off comments. We all do without negativity in our lives especially if we can help it. Some people cite voyeurism as an excuse to read intensely negative posts; I guess they are harming themselves. Good luck with that; I could care less.

Moderated comments, sure.
No comments, whats the logic for it when you have the option of moderating comments?
If one is really concerned, one can always ask people who want to comment to register.
Sorry, but I dont really agree with people who switch of their comments-Amit and Gaurav to give two examples.
Though, I completely agree that it is entirely their choice and I have no right to do anything except crib.
Which I shall do. :)

Confused, I would argue for comments as well coz I feel they are an integral part of a blog but then again you really can’t argue against the people who chose to switch them off completely. Their blog and their wish argument…probably they don’t have the time to moderate comments or don’t want to.

On a serious note, I usually enjoy dissent in the comments. I mean it gets really boring when everyone agrees with ya.
But true, some trolls do create a mess. But then I haven’t had much of a problem with them.

BD, I agree about the dissent in the comments part but some buggers are simply incorrigible and honestly aren’t around for reasonable debate. Other buggers have blogs which you can simply ignore although they try real hard to catch your attention.

People have their own reasons to switch-off or moderate comments. Some people feel that reading and replying to comments is a time consuming activity and try to turn it off. there is always the option of mailing the blogger to let them know about the comment / feedback. Emails comments could be quite insightful.

I beg to disagree. One need not reply, someone like Atanu never does. With email comments, there is no discussion among the readers.

On a personal note, You deserve a pat on the back for replying to the most inane comments-mostly mine. Makes the reader feel he is welcome on the blog, and his opinion-however shallow is valued.
