Czech Mate

Ghana just pulled off the biggest upset of this World Cup. They pumped in two great goals and certainly looked set to score more if it weren’t for Cech in the Czech goal. Ghana completely deserved the victory as they kept attacking after their first goal in the second minute. They definitely came out today as a rejuvenated team after their loss against Italy. I was more impressed with Ghana’s continuing attacking style in spite of being a goal up and even the penalty kick miss did not get them down.

With this victory, the ‘group of death’ is thrown wide open and before this match, USA was all ready to pack their bags if they lost against Italy (realistic possibility given the way they played against Czechs). Now, it will be all down to goal differential calculation. But freak…well-deserved victories like these make the World Cup such an exciting event. Truly, as the WC ad says, one game changes everything.

I knew Ghana was a good team in their first game itself. Even though they lost they showed a lot of spunk. They just need to stop wasting opportunities.

gawker, Ghana certainly impressed with their attacking play today. Sadly, the Czech and the Italians failed to live up to their ‘pedigree’ mark. The drawn USA-Italy game has further tossed Group H into a chaos. I love it.

The Ivory Coast againds Netherlands was an awesome match. England look too sluggish to compete and the front line is not doing much. I don’t know if the bad teams are playing well or if the good teams are playing badly…but it’s a damn good game!

Reflextion, strangely the game plays of many teams differ widely in each game they play. Only Argentina and Germany have improved after their first game.

Group E is even more interesting now with USA drawing against Italy.
I was impressed by the US team’s performance with 9 men on the field for most part of the game. Especially their defense.. being able to neutralise Totti and Del piero during the final stages.

Ghana vs Czech (or should it be Ghana vs Cech?) finally gave us what this WC was lacking – an upset! I do hope that they keep the African flag flying by making it to the next stage, which means that either one of Czech or Italy would not make it.
Only if Ivory Coast were in a different group (possibly the same group as England), then I would have been happier!

Ashwin, I thought Italy totally sucked in that games especially after they seemed to have picked up the attack mode in their first game against Ghana.

Nirav, LOL! It was definitely Ghana v. Cech. But Ghana had Kingston who is equally good.
