Morally Troubling No More

In a way, the most morally troubling thing about killing chickens is that after a while it is no longer morally troubling.

Sitting in front of the freshly-cooked chicken waiting for my [would-be] better half to shut down her laptop, I cannot help but agree with this quote by Michael Pollan in “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” [via]. Although I have met more sincere animal lovers especially from the opposite sex, I still consider myself somewhat of an animal lover. But probably not enough to warrant giving up eating non-vegetarian. Trust me, I have tried…many times. But I simply cannot turn away from the lure of meat (not what it sounds like). Heck, I couldn’t get through the month of Shravan when devout Maharashtrians keep away from the ‘everything non-veg’, the hogging on ‘Guttari Amavasya‘ [day before Shravan begins] notwithstanding. In the craziness of so-called love, I had even promised my ‘vegetarian’ ex-girlfriend that I would give up meat (gosh! what was I thinking?). Thankfully, that relationship went down the pooper and I could safely continue on my non-veg binge.

Fast-forward to the present day, I can vaguely remember that one of my first mentions of Ash on my blog was something to do with finding friends who enjoyed seafood as much as I did. Goes a long way in understanding the basis of our relationship, doesn’t it? Anyway, fugget it I am going off to hog some delicious chikkin.
