Punish the culprit instead
You may get free education if you fall down a deep pit and manage to attract the attention of news-hungry media but the people who left such a deep pit unguarded go unpunished. Heck, I have no problem with the entire village being rewarded financially for the rescue efforts. I am sure the Army and the villagers were helping out purely for their financial benefit, right? But for god’s sake, do not dip into the taxpayers’ pockets for your political gains.
Let the person/organization responsible for leaving that dangerous pit open be liable. Fine them and maybe we might even get ahead in implementing safety standards. I hope the media had picked on this angle of the story and hounded down the person responsible for causing this ‘tragedy’.
