Feedvertising

Text Link Ads has now expanded into free ‘Feedvertising’ technology to run text link ads in your RSS feeds. It is open only to WordPress 2.0+ users but they promise to add more blogging platforms soon. I have to add that I have earned more money through Text Link Ads than I ever did with Adsense. Surprisingly, the Urban Planning Blog with the least traffic earns the most. So it is clearly not just traffic that matters. It is great for niche and targeted blogs with a small audience. Unfortunately, Blogger and WordPress.com users cannot use these ads as they require access to server side technologies. Trust me, if you ever decide to host your blog on your own domain, TLA helps pay off those hosting and domain name costs and make some more.

I received an invite to try out the beta version of Feedvertising from Patrick Gavin at TLA last night with a request not to blog about it until it went public. It went public few hours ago and seems to have generated a decent response. Like TechCrunch does, you can choose not to insert advertisments in the RSS links but instead choose to promote other sites. The setup and installation was easy. All I have to do now is wait for advertisers to buy ads on the RSS feed. DesiPundit already sports image ads from FeedBurner [every third post] and hopefully these text link ads won’t be too obtrusive for the readers.

Sameer, not trying to hard-sell TLA but let me assure you that it will at least pay for your blogging costs regardless of the traffic. Let me know how you fare.
