Missing Fluorescence
I posted earlier today that I was pleased that Wal-Mart was going green and promoting the swirl-shaped compact fluorescent lamps. Since the big-ass bulb in our dining area had fused earlier yesterday, I decided to replace it with the energy-saver bulb and promptly went to the local Wal-Mart. But in the bulb aisle, I was disappointed to see hardly any fluorescent lamps. The regular incandescent ones were plentifully available. I finally found a two-pack which was priced at $7 as opposed to one buck for four ordinary bulbs. I needed just one lamp and considering that as advertised, I wouldn’t be needing another for at least five more years.
Whereas in the other supermarkets (Albertsons and HEB), I found the lamps albeit of different brands available for lot less and also they had a wide range to choose from. So what the heck is going on? Is Wal-Mart really pushing for the energy saver lamps or is that just a publicity stunt? Or is the problem more to do with the location? But then you wouldn’t get the lamps elsewhere either.
I bought the lamps at Wal-Mart but will be returning them as I got cheaper ones at the other store. Wal-Mart, even thought you are promoting an environment-friendly product, cost [more generic brands, please] and consumer preferences [let me buy just one] are still applicable.
