Forget Big Brother

I am not going to rant on the Shilpa Shetty and the Big Brother episode of alleged racism. India, thanks to the TRP-hungry media channels is getting increasingly sensitive or at least is perceived to be. Indians can be mean racists (and sexist) too so get over it. This issue deserves no more attention.

Harini echoes my thoughts on the Big Brother episode and the role of Indian media in prioritizing news while Great Bong provides the necessary sarcasm. I rather write on the neocon-dream-come-true ’24′. But that’s for later.

I have to agree with youon the India being sexist and racist bit. But are you saying Shilpa deserves it….? Haven’t seen the show but I have heard/read she is handling it quite well on the show. Geez! shilpa shetty is making me all patriotic now, imagine that!!

From what I have seen on youtube (that doesn’t amount to much), I would not go to the extent of calling it racism. It just looked like a silly cat fight. What do I know ?

Orchid, Ohno! I never meant she deserves it but for crying out loud, it is a dumb reality show. Why should nations or cultures clash over a trivial episode or a spat that might be purely personal? Almost all of the people protesting in India haven’t even seen Big Brother ever. Shilpa Shetty isn’t in that show to boost India’s image, she is out there to earn big bucks.

, you have it right when you put it as a catfight.

dumb reality show is an understatement. India is currently running “Big Boss” – celebrity Big Brother (without the sex) n number of nobodies in the middle of nowhere doing nothing. Obviouslly you will bitch.

Bitching is what makes TRP’s and circulation go up. Can you imagine a 5 year long running, 4 days a week, prime time programme on Mother Theresa and the sisters of Charity, It is a completely scary thought :)

Harini, I agree. And we should treat these shows as just that. Why are we associating patriotic sentiments to such shows is beyond me.

Amen. Indians can be very racist and sexist.

No wonder all the foreign female dancers in bollywood songs are of one particular race.
