Will Sanjaya Malakar survive this week?
Update: It is official. He is safe. In fact, he is in the top four among guys. But he better get his act straight and deliver a solid performance. That cool cutesy look isn’t going to help him forever.
My ‘American Idol brother-in-arms’ Santosh at Uberdesi points me to this American Idol predictor website – Dial Idol. This company provides the dialing software that powers American Idol ‘predicts’ the people that might be voted off in each episode (and you would think I’m obsessed!) Based on their data [see image below], the site is predicting that Sanjaya Malakar, our desi favorite is expected to garner second-highest number of votes and is all set to proceed to the next round.

This is surprising because his performance in the first studio round was not quite up to the mark at least according to the judges.
“Randy announced that he did NOT like the performance at all, saying, “It was really bad.” He blamed the song choice, as did Paula and Simon. Wow. Maybe Sanjaya’s sister jealously sabotaged him with a bad song selection…Ultimately, Simon called it “the most dreary performance we’ve had all night” and then brutally added, “For me, that’s what I call a waste-of-time performance” [source: American Idol blog]
Admittedly, the Idol voting is less for talent and more about personality, stage presence, and looks. No matter how much the judges keep insisting that it is a singing competition, it is hardly just that. Anyway, I just hope Sanjaya at least makes it to the final 12 after which I am sure, the girls are gonna kick his ass.
I’ll update this post as soon as the results are announced tonight to see how accurate the Dial Idol really is [see update at the top of the post.]
Update: Sanjaya is really becoming popular at least on the web. Here are the top 12 guys in South Park style and the caricature of Sanjaya is awesome [see attached image.]
