India crash out of the World Cup

So it is done. India crash out of the 2007 Cricket World Cup and will join Pakistan on their trip home. In the end, it was a sub-par performance and at no point did India look like winning this crucial game. As the dejected folks at IndiCast said, India doesn’t deserve to be in the Super Eight. I agree.

Bangladesh joins Sri Lanka in advancing to the next round (nope, Bermuda will not upset any one.) I’m not offering any post-match analysis or erudite commentary on the state of affairs of Indian cricket because I’m sure we’ll have plenty of such opinions in the days to come. I’m just depressed but probably I’ll have a better rest of the semester academically (that damn half-full glass.)

The world doesn’t need a superman, after all. All it needs is 11 men with love for the game, fire in the belly and sense of pride for the nation, which, apparently none of us had for 66.6% of the time we played in last 2 weeks.
I bet this is good for the game in the long term. Remember 2003. After we almost won the cup, we were so engaged in celebration that we forgot all about long term planning and stuff. In due course, we were beaten by virtually any team. I seriously think that folks will get back to the round-table, chalk out strategies for improvements and start implementing as soon as possible.
I am sure they can do it. I am sure even Pak Cricket can come out of the mess that it is currently in.
Only bad thing to have happened was Woolmer. Rest of the things when put in the perspective, look business as usual, don’t they?

2. No one can accuse of match fixing on the organizer’s part.
Based on performances so far, BD deserve to be in super 8 (not the motel). Even if I were Indian cricket fan, I would still be rooting for BD.

nk, I don’t think you really needed fire in the belly to whip Bermuda. You’re right about going back to the drawing board and thinking about what actually makes the players tick. Why does Australia play so consistently and why with our maidans filled with so-called talent can’t? We like to think we are crazy about cricket but can we really perform when it is really needed?
Niket, I agree about the part that we deserve to go home. We were required to beat one test-playing nation. A nation that we had just defeated convincingly in a pre-WC series.
