iPatrix ranked 22nd?

It seems that this blog is ‘ranked’ 22nd in the highly competitive Indian blogosphere, according to Sudhanshu Raheja’s analysis based on Alexa rankings. It ranks higher than DesiPundit, Great Bong, and India Uncut (I know, yeah right!) Sudhanshu calls it the A-List of the Indian Blogosphere. But given the anomaly of this blog’s high rank, you know better than to trust Alexa rankings. Although many webmasters trust Alexa, there are plenty of problems with it. The high rank is probably attributed to the immense popularity of two posts in recent times [thanks, live streaming options / frauds for World Cup Cricket and Shyamali & Sanjaya Malakar.]

The Indian blogosphere is more concerned about rankings that anyone else and admittedly, I was obsessed about it too not too long ago. But frankly, you are better off doing your own thing and not worrying too much about being a part of the so-called A-List. But if you are still inclined to find your place, I prefer to use Technorati rankings because of their reliance on inbound links rather than traffic. Website traffic is seasonal and frankly, not reflective of a blog’s popularity much like “form is temporary, class is permanent” (cricket season hai!) Heck, even the Indibloggies are a better measure. Anyway, if measuring popularity doesn’t matter, the tools matter even less.

This blog will eventually slide down the rankings. Thanks to India’s dismal performance it has already started and once, Sanjaya Malakar gets voted out of American Idol, it will be once again lonesome and home to the few loyal readers.

Pranav, I usually don’t do Google-baiting. I write what I feel most comfortable about. If enough people are interested, they search and come across my blog. And even if I was Google-baiting, remember that the popular keywords are also more competitive (more websites writing about them.)
