God is not Great – Hitchens explains

Christopher Hitchens is currently peddling his latest book, God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything. He has been appearing on talk shows discussing the content and I’m loving his not-so-subtle rants against the evils of religion. Hitchens is known for not mincing his words and he bindaas wades into talk show hosts to put across his point. He doesn’t humor you while conversing or even try to be sensitive to your feelings. Admittedly he has rationale and facts behind him and half-baked knowledge of some poor ignorant host is no match for his wits. Check out the following videos:

On CNN’s Anderson Cooper [on the death of Jerry Falwell]:

on Hannity & Colmes:

I enjoyed them both immensely. The book sure sounds interesting. I hope to get my hands on it soon. After I am done with Dawkin’s The God Delusion. Damn! I’m turning into an atheist. Don’t tell my parents :)

I would love to see him on Colbert. We’ll see then who’s the God!

Oh ok. I just looked it up… he’s come on the Daily Show
Was fun though. Pretty sure he’ll be on Colbert soon.

I like him. He is much more in your face than Dawkins. His Anderson Cooper interview was impressive because he did not let Cooper cut him off, said what he wanted to say :)
Hannity is as much fun to watch as Billy boy.

Piker, yeah I saw him on The Daily Show but of course, Jon Stewart agreed with what he has to say so not much fun there. He will definitely be fun on the Colbert Report but then we know Stephen doesn’t really mean what he says. He is fun to watch when he takes on the conservatives, plays by their rules and yet kicks their ass.

Sakshi, True. I love the fact that he minces no words and doesn’t apologize for stating the brutal truth.

Christopher Hitchens indeed packs a dry and devastating punch. Not surprisingly, he has been called intolerant, bigoted, and militant, by the same people who call Dawkins and Harris these things. They just don’t realise that compared with the intolerance, bigotry, and militant nature of so much of religion, this is nothing.
Hitchens is really good, but for sheer delight and language, I would always turn to Dawkins! There is something resplendent about that man.

Ashutosh, I guess Dawkins would be a more nuanced read.

Logic, common sense, and reason are quickly forgotten when you preach the fear of god if certain narrow-minded beliefs aren’t adhered too. Well, religion has always been that way…for ages.
