iPatrix breaks into Alexa Top 100,000

I am not sure if this means anything but I just noticed that this blog is now ranked 95,443 in Alexa [see sidebar widget badge]. Alexa ranking is a quick way to calculate the ranking of your site in regards to incoming traffic. As you know, I am not a big fan of traffic as a measure forranking your website especially blogs and Alexa ranking can easily be manipulated (pssst…install the toolbar and widget on your blog). Although the rankings have been long discredited, a high Alexa ranking is still used by many advertising companies like Text Link Ad advertisers or Review Me sponsors to buy space on your website. So I hope some sucker notices the rise in rankings on this blog and hands me some dough. I’ll take back my tag of sucker if you do.

The 3-month traffic chart for this blog is shown below:

alexa 3-month traffic chart

As you see the spikes in traffic came primarily in latter half of March and at two points in April. These spikes occurred due to my posts on the online streaming options for the Cricket World Cup and my diligent following of Sanjaya Malakar in his American Idol journey. Traffic after that has returned to its normal levels and I expect my Alexa ranking to take a nose-dive after those spike effects have petered out. But just for analysis (and online ego) sake, let us take a look at the trends over the past 3 months:

alexa ranking details

The reach per million average over the 3-month period was 0.0016% (now 0.00075%) but the increase was more than 1000%. Similarly the traffic rank jumped by 673,093. Impressive numbers, eh? My Mint counter tells me that this blog crossed the half-million mark in page views since it was installed in October 2006. The Site Meter/NedStat had registered another half million in the period preceding that [look how much difference an independent domain makes]. But just let us put those numbers in perspective and take a look at them in comparison to other biggies out there. Nope, I’ll not compare to MySpace or Yahoo but just another desi blog run by only one person:

Yup, this blog is that almost-flat blue line. Ouch!

    Hehe.

Nice going buddy. You know what you should do, compare yours with mine. :) Then with my negative alexa ranking you can hold your head high! And about Alexa ranking, by installing in your blog will it show up publicly? ‘Cos I want to install it but don’t want the embarrassment of a ridiculously low Alexa ranking!

    Piker,

Heh. Hardly high, re when I know it is going to come crashing down soon. And yup, adding Alexa ranking widget will show on your blog but you can put it in the footer if you are that ashamed of it :)

Congrats on breaking the Alexa Top 100k rank. :)

IMO, getting int the top 75k is no big deal. Maintaining at 50k level is difficult coz, thats where we are gonna compete with some really high traffic sites.

Ashwin, yeah so I’ve heard. But I don’t I am going to try. If it happens, good.

i was about to type “here’s to hoping you do a sania” then it struck me that you could just bob up from 95Ks to 100th and then keep hopping between the two.

    i wonder if i even make the Planet’s 10000000000th Page :D

Nice going! That’s a pretty big accomplishment and quite hard to do. I’m sure that you’ll get a lot better though, your blog rocks.

Court, thanks :) as you suggest on your blog, all we have to do is create great content and the rest will follow, right?
