Kids at Britain’s Got Talent

Although we get the American version, we spent late Friday night watching videos of a similar show across the Atlantic. By now, the Internets & YouTubes are buzzing with the performance of Paul Potts, the mobile salesman’s amazing opera voice (he reached the final) in Britain’s Got Talent. However, there were quite a few kids auditioning for the show as well and if you have seen the previous episode of the American version, you were subjected to too many kids dressed up like Britney Spears by their overzealous mommies to win the million bucks. When one of the judges pointed that out, the audience booed but that didn’t make it wrong.

Too many memories of Little Miss Sunshine and previous year’s winner brought out many kids egged on by their eager parents who think that their dearest darlings sing like a canary when in fact, it is faaaar from that. The parents are trying to showcase their kids as precocious when it clearly isn’t so.

That said, we still saw some amazing performances by kids at Britain’s Got Talent. A six year old girl, Connie Talbot impressed even the cutesy-hater Simon Cowell. Here is her video:

Another kid with amazing talent for Broadway-type performances (West End for Londonites) was Bessie Cursons. She performed dances from the classics My Fair Lady and Mary Poppins to land a place in the finals:

Finally, the last kid who made it to the semi-finals but lost out on the finals was 14-year-old Dominic Smith. This lil kid sure is going to go places:

PS. Although not a kid, this guy’s first performance with his monkey puppet singing Michael Jackson songs was downright howlarious:
