Patriotism

“Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it.” – George Bernard Shaw [source: QOTD].

True. It is true of any so-called patriot be it immigration-hating Red State-ers or cyber-cafe thrashing Shiv Sainiks.

Now I am not too knowledgeable of political ideologies of respective parties here in the US, but doesn’t it strike you as surprising that while the Red-necks are well known for their hatred towards immigrants of any kind, the ‘red’ party seems to be pretty encouraging as far as skilled immigrants are concerned?

I am not sure if I have my facts right, I gather that’s the case. You tell me!

Piker, Yup! you are partly right. The ‘red’ party has always been business-centric and getting the best person for the job, immigrant or not but lately the grassroots conservative (socially speaking) movement is raking up the immigrant issue to ‘protect jobs for Americans’ which was previously a Democrat slogan. Even Kerry espoused it as late as 2004. But globalization has made aspect moot.
