Nerve Endings Firing Away

How will the Potter phenomenon that has captivated kids for over a decade now end? There have been countless speculative accounts on Harry’s fate; the million dollar question being – does Harry Potter die? Even the captives at Gitmo must be waiting eagerly. Now Brit authors are known for killing off their main characters; case in point – Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie. Of course, one had to be revived due to popular demand much like Vishal of Thoda Hai Thode Ki Zarorat Hai thanks to my grandmother’s undying optimism. The final chapter has been written and the books due to be released on July 21st are under lock and key. But that didn’t stop four writers from writing their versions of the Harry Potter finale:

The Boy Who Died by Damon Lindelof

When Harry Met Davey by Meg Cabot

Made in Hogwarts by Larry Doyle

Hermione Tells All by Polly Horvath

While the perfect tragic end would be to kill off Harry, as Lindelf suggests it would crush millions of children. However, in the world of Hogwarts (or Tolkien), no one is really dead. One unmentioned spell can simply revive anyone. If Voldemort could come back from the brink of death and effectively form the entire basis of the series, Harry could do with a long rest only to be revived by the next generation.

Since you can’t really end a book with a blank page like a dead-tree version of the Sopranos, it would be fantastically exciting if there is a maha-twist like the last Horcrux lying inside Harry [as suggested by Doyle] asking for the ultimate sacrifice or still better, Voldemort turns out to be his grandfather much in the spirit of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker [as suggested by Cabot]. I suggest an Andaz Apna Apna or Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron type of ending…all mayhem and a laugh riot. All the dark endings of the previous books will be forgotten :) Of course, the previously mentioned hacked ending is too contrived and melodramatic. Update: Harry Potter Prognostications has a set of hilarious alternate endings based on popular movies. For the spoilsports, there are rumors that the entire Harry Potter book seven has been leaked and is available on several Bit Torrent sites.

All we know right now is that two or even more prime characters are bumped off and all kids are wishing the trio is left unharmed. On the other hand, not everyone is enthused by the hype and hoopla [of the movies]. So what would be your ideal Harry Potter climax?
