As for Wadekar being a legendary coach/manager, he achieved this record exclusively on tailor made spin tracks on the sub-continent. The Indian team's overseas record under the Wadekar regime was abysmal. In fact India started doing well abroad after Wadekar quit - the last 10 years or so. He was also fortunate because he did not have to deal with a stronger Sri Lankan team when he was manager. Patrix,

Why does the BCCI feels like it needs to be the launching pad for former players wanting to coach in international cricket? Take the example of the disaster that Greg Chappell was. There is a reason most jobs ask for experience in related field. The coaching job should be no different. There were plenty of good coaches with experience who were interested in the job. Dave Whatmore for instance. But the BCCI goes out and picks up a greenhorn. I guess he asked for the least salary.
