Democracy is a good thing; you are free to make choices and do what you want. But the choice whether you want a democracy or not is not yours to make.
This is a paradoxical lesson we are learning from Iraq. Bush surely is making marketing democracy a much-hated exercise. But definitely democracy has to mean something more than making rhetoric speeches with words like freedom and liberty. I say, put up a MacDonalds as soon as possible. It is proven that countries with MacDonalds do not attack each other. Hopefully the Iraqis hold on till the dust settles and munch on some Big Macs.
Jokes apart, in Bush’s defense (has hell suddenly frozen over?), capitalistic democracy is the least evil in regime choice for fledging nations.
