IPL Final attracts 24 million.

Considering that nearly 27 million watched the India-Pakistan Twenty20 Final last year, the estimate of 24 million for IPL’s final between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai SuperKings is impressive. And it is considered to be a conservative estimate. The Indian public raised mostly on nationalistic fervor of the game far exceeded expectations and loved the new league. IPL is here to stay.

From that same link: TAM has pegged the aggregate viewership between April 19 and May 24 at 99 million.

Approximately 10% of the Indian population, which for a tournament on cable, is huge.

Potentially, we have our own Super Bowl right here. Soon you will hear accusations of Indians not bothering about the world game etc, and we will probably call the IPL final a World Series.

    I am loving it, though.

Aditya, SET Max’s risks seems to have paid off. They are expected to garner a profit of nearly 1000 crores if not more at the end of ten years. And I too am loving the advent of a professional league in India. Hopefully as time passes, we shall see the league mature.

Rajesh, I read those figures but I prefered to go with the more conservative numbers since media tracking is not yet a precise science in India yet.
