Snow in Texas

Snow on the hedge

There are only two weather conditions in Texas – warm and hot; with an occasional ice day when everything shuts down due to 1mm of ice on the road making all trucks with dogs in the back skid. But yesterday was different. We actually had a snowfall. Sadly most of the snowfall happened late evening making photographs impossible and by the time, it was morning most of the snow had melted away. I was lucky to get a shot of this little spot of white from the night on the hedge outside our balcony.

Given the state of community at apartment living in the U.S, it was heartening to see people outside playing around with snow. Parents were out with kids bundled up in thick winter coats and college students rolling up snow to make misshapen snowmen. Some enthusiastic folks even made snow angels; something that they would never do if they knew what was on the grass 2 inches below. We took Lucy out and she had a blast dashing around on the white expansive field just outside our apartment complex. I wish I had a sled so she could be my Hobbes.

Snow ironically brought people out of their apartments where they happily mingled with each other and you could scarcely hear a complaint about the weather being wet and cold. Christmas came early to Texas this year. Pictures of the snowmen after the jump:

Your trees STILL have fall foliage? Wow. I’m jealous :)

@Lekhni: With what little foliage we have, yup we still have some left (some trees got the memo late); until of course the snow stripped it all away.
