Pakistan Military Victory?

An editorial in the Urdu daily, Roznama Ausaf, while lauding prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani’s assertion that Pakistan will give a befitting reply if its sovereignty is threatened, writes, “This is the same country which, despite being militarily weaker, had handed a stunning defeat to a much powerful army” [source].

Err…which victory are they talking about? As far as I remember, every armed conflict at least with India, the Pakistani army has ended up on the losing side. Or are they also counting cricket matches? This is the state of the Pakistan mainstream media that lives in its own dreamland so how can we expect anything more from its corrupt establishment? I’m told the Pakistani people want peace with India and are all bhai-bhai in their attitude. Sadly, I don’t see or hear of them very much. In the same article:

Zardari also said that, as a nuclear-armed state, Pakistan would behave as a responsible country, but would not budge under any pressure.

Ah! Nuclear proliferation by your top scientist and providing refuge to terrorists is so much like “responsible behavior”, right?

I would only say here that one Urdu daily doesn’t represent the Pakistani press as India TV doesn’t represent the Indian Electronic Media and Raj Thackrey doesn’t represent all Marathis. Remember “Dawn” story had confirmed India’s allegation about the Pakistani origin of the captured terrorist.

Debashish, I was commenting on the penchant for overlooking historical facts. The fact that Pakistan has not won any military victory is known to all so why even go there? Raj Thackeray has an asinine and prejudiced opinion and as harmful as it is, he is not stating something that never happened. Kudos to Dawn for at least digging up the truth but then there opinion pages undo all that.

LOL. As expected. The whole of Arab World, unfortunately shares the same view I guess though.

May be they were referring to their own. After all, Pakistan, as a country, have managed to outlive few army dictators. :) . And well, regarding Zardari’s comments, we do hold Pakistan responsible for a lot of things :)
