The Mahatma Glasses

The Gandhi glasses were bought by Vijay Mallaya for $1.8 million. Sure, it is his money so is my right to call his desire to dish out dough for something we see in every place that Gandhi slept stupid.

Wasn't it possible for the Central government to bid for the items themselves?I'm sure they have $1.8 million in their kitty.

The $1.8 million from the govt. kitty comes from the taxpayers pocket. Do you really want them spending in such bidding wars instead of utilizing funds for more important needs? Buying such artifacts is best left to the private collector (like Mallaya did) who can then offer to either donate it to the state museum or build his own museum open to the public.

Well true but then again the UPA might get an agenda to show how it wants to preserve India's culture.Anyway,a huge hue and cry has been made out of it which has made this thing a little tiresome to discuss.

And that would be even worse for one political party to use state funds this way. But you are right; I find the entire issue a bit tiresome too.

Yeah I don't know about all news channels but CNN IBN covered a lot of it which may be good journalism but a little pushy in some places.
