I may not be a teenager but seemingly I can still hear like one. Check out at what frequency your hearing cuts off. I could hear right albeit just barely up to 21 kHz.

Gosh, I can hear clearly only till about 16-17k and I can barely 'feel' 18-19k as a pop in my eardrums. But this explains the annoying noise I hear outside my local grocery store which didn't seem to bother anyone else around me.
