Rules of Gully Cricket

Love this rule of gully cricket: “Overs are not necessarily six deliveries. Typically, only when a batsmen raises the question of remaining deliveries do overs come to an end” [source: to be revealed later]. More to follow. Name your favorite rules in the comments.

    1. If you are a good batsman, you don’t have to do fielding. Just wait for your turn to bat and then luxuriously sit on the side. Some buffer player will fill your shoes during fielding.

    2. You can ball underarm.

    3. Run outs are always controversial and unless you are wide away from wicket, the benefit of doubt always goes to runner/batsman.

    4. Screaming on the standing umpire and calling him names is not frowned upon.

    More later.

    1. Minimum age for playing is 10 years. There is NO MAXIMUM Age Limit.
    2. Atleast one player should be between the age of 10 to 12 years.
    3. Atleast one player should be over 50 years old.
    4. The players should have NEVER PLAYED ANY COMPETITIVE CRICKET IN LIFE. NOT EVEN RANJI TROPHY OR ANY DOMESTIC TOURNAMENT.
    5. The matches will be played with Tennis Ball, and not Cricket Ball to prevent injuries to batsman/fielders.
    6. There will be 11 players in each side, and one player will be marked as the WICKET KEEPER. The remaining 10 players can bowl only 1 over each, and MUST BOWL ONE OVER.
    7. A batsman will be replaced by another after facing 6 balls, and if he is not out, he will return to bat after everybody’s turn is over (on rotational basis).
    8. The so called WICKET KEEPER should come not later than No. 7.

In the nutshell, the rules 6, 7 & 8 will ensure that EACH AND EVERY PLAYER IN A TEAM GETS A CHANCE TO BAT AND BOWL.

Yes, one more thing that I would like to mention is that the remaining rules for cricket also holds for Gully Cricket (e.g. field restriction for first 3 overs, run out, lbw etc).
