Avatar and the Iraq War

[T]he more interesting question is why it’s been left up to a movie like Avatar to deal with Iraq War II concepts instead of another likely Best Picture nominee. You know: The Hurt Locker, the movie that actually takes place in Iraq circa 2004.”

[Source: Avatar: How We Deal with Iraq War II] The most interesting line from a meta-review of ‘Avatar’. Wall-E too was plagued by such needless analysis. Just enjoy the movie. The strange part is that actual documentaries and movies that make the Iraq war (or any current hot topic) link obvious are rarely seen and discussed but other movies that offer subtle comparisons are analyzed ad nauseaum.

what about the serbian-croatian war? i watched a european film which dealt with it, it spans the events of one day when a soldier is trapped on top of a landmine and a debate is raging among the different forces about what to do. in the end the soldier makes the supreme sacrifice and everyone goes back to routine. i guess the americans like to concentrate on wars where there are some american heroics they can showcase, the “eye-rack” war and the afghan conflict are too filled with grey areas. remember “wag the dog”? the vietnam affair is best shown in spoofs, where the total inanity of american involvement is on display.
