Defining an Apple Fanboy
Does an Apple enthusiast has a similar feeling of initial hesitation and then a grand declaration with an explanation when it comes to describing his love for Mac products? Agar Mac products ko use kar karke accha lagta hai…to hoon…hoon…hoon…mein fanboy hoon (paging Farah Khan). So what makes a normal Mac user a fanboy? Sqrl tells me people who get all giddy when they meet Steve Jobs qualify. I would agree but then my brother is an equal parts fanboy of Bill Gates and Sachin ‘is-god’ Tendulkar (he considers me an Obama fanboy) and Sqrl is a self-professed Wal-Mart fanboy (and she doesn’t even live in Arkansas). So how would you define a fanboy in an age when you can officially become a fan of Amul Chocolates on Facebook? Am I a fanboy because I got an iPad and you are not because you just have a Macbook, iPod Touch, and an iPhone? What aren’t those people who say, I’m a PC and I made Windows 7 called Microsoft fanboys? And why does saying, I love using Macs instead of Windows on your little-read blog as opposed to a primetime TV commercial make you one? Or does owning a shitload of Apple products (not me but Louis Gray) qualify? When does a user or even an enthusiast become a fanboy? And why do most who really loves using Mac product begin their conversations with, I’m not a fanboy but…?
No, really, I want to know what makes one a fanboy? And so what if you are?
