I Can Haz Retina Display MBP

After nearly four years of using my trusted old late-2008 MacBook Pro, I finally upgraded to the much-talked about MacBook Pro Retina Display.

MBP Retina Display

To be fair, it is a work laptop so doesn’t technically belong to me. However, I have admin access so can install all the apps I have bought. The Retina Display is amazing; the text renders amazingly and if designed to retina-compatibility, icons and graphics are crisp and sharp. You feel good just writing a simple text document on it and reading is so much better. On the flip side, now websites not designed, this site included, for retina display appear so crappy; WordPress is compatible though.

To top that, it has 8GB RAM and a 250GB SSD hard drive that makes things super fast. It does lack an optical drive so I haven’t been able to install my statistics software on it [1]. Although it is the same OS as on my old Mac, having a new machine just feels…better.

Footnotes:
  1. SAS will have to be run remotely off the Windows machine at work []

I’ve tried thrice now, but I can’t get used to native retina resolution – hurts my eyes and gives me a headache. The next setting up (more space) works like a charm though. I am not sure how much of true retina I am missing though by going one step up, but it works for me. You are right though – the text looks amazing on this display.

I remember you mentioning that but I’ve no such problem. But I did try out different scaling resolutions. I plan to spend some time with the one step up too.
