Where is HAL?

"The A380 was unveiled with grand fanfare at the Jean-Luc Lagardere Final Assembly Line Hall in Toulouse, France, on Tuesday.

It’s tail stands seven stories high; and the plane is as wide as a soccer field, stretching 260 feet from wingtip to wingtip. It is also as long as two blue whales. It can seat 555 passengers, about 30 per cent more than a Boeing 747; but it can actually hold 800 people. When fully loaded it will weigh up to 560 tonnes. It has an 118-tonne fuel supply, which is more than two fully loaded Boeing 717s in weight.Yet, it will be one of the fastest aircraft, capable of speeds of about 650 mph (0.85 Mach) and can fly up to 15,000 miles.

If you wish to buy it, it will cost you $281 million" [Rediff News]

Touted as the largest passenger aircraft in the world, the A380 can seat more than 555 passengers (tobacco sponsors?). An amazing engineering feat combined with tastefully done interiors. I wish I could fly in one of these soon. Its vital statistics are enough to launch a thousand geek ships.

Yeah!! We at FedEx are gungho about these machines since we are getting 10 of these by 2010. First three by 2008. Might even get to fly on one of these if they put one on a domestic lane. Man are they big!!

Bryan – 560 tons is a big improvement for FedEx. I hope that will bring the prices down or you folks plan to recover the $281 million tag price from us consumers :)

*Sigh*, Patrix if I was the head of marketing I could have made some promises. But logically speaking, since we will be able to carry more volume, generate more revenue and eliminate the need for extra planes on heavier routes, prices could actually come down for destinations like Asia. But hey, I’m just a lowly worker bee :-)
