Balle Balle in National Geographic

National Geographic, the premier "crossing borders, crossing cultures" magazine has taken a brief break from showcasing Amazonian tribes and wonders of the Serengeti to talk about Bollywood. The photo-essay [Flash required], accompanied by an audio narration by William Albert Allard beautifully captures the behind-the-scenes machinations of Veer-Zaara while explaining the finer nuances of Bollywood. Suketu Mehta (of Maximum City fame) pens the feature article in almost a glee-like manner (you would have to read the print edition for the full version though).

It is strange that Bollywood still inspires only an exotic sigh of amazement from its Western counterparts rather than inspiring a co-professional spirit.

The Co-professional spirit comes with success(like the Chinese Industry) and our Bollywood cannot achieve success without concentrating on the key element called ‘Believable inspiring Story/Script’(some of them are but they are never sent for Oscars or Cannes).

M – Actually it is not. He has interviewed only Yash and Aditya Chopra, who gove a very warped picture of today’s Bollywood.

Ramchi – You are right. After the initial exotic charm wanes off, we lack substance and every script reeks of blatant copying.
