The early bird

Yay! The early bird gets the tax refund. Hail direct deposit! My bank account looks respectable at least for now. Filing returns before the world gets consumated consumed in tax season has its rewards. Trust me, it is better to hit IRS with your tax returns when they are twiddling their thumbs waiting for folks to rush in their returns at the last minute. I got my refund within three weeks.

Now before I can start celebrating my windfall, I have to treat my friends who have stood by me in times of need – MasterCard, American Express, and Visa.

If you know you’re gonna get a refund then go early bird! Sad will be the day when you have to start *paying* the IRS :-(…Hmmm…but maybe catching them in a good mood will help then too?..Enjoy your windfall!

Sabra – Ooops! Thanks for correcting me. Even wishing to get sloshed gets my brain in knots.

Gabby – Getting a refund back doesn’t mean I didn’t pay any taxes. Uncle Sam holds back a major part of my income and earns interest before giving it back to me.

Oh yes, and how about how the the 401k amount shows up only 4 days after it’s gone from your paycheck?!!!…Those damn investment bankers happily playing with it meanwhile!!!..Apologies to any investment banker-bloggers reading this. But *sticking tongue out* & Patrix, I hope you’re not one yourself.

Gabby – Me? An investment banker? You must be kidding. I am on the opposite end of the spectrum.

You should be unhappy that you received a big windfall. You should have received that money all through the last year. Adjust your witholdings. Don’t let the government eat your interest.

Parag – Unfortunately our university doesn’t offer us an option to waive tax witholdings.
