Killing fields of…India?

Now there is statistical proof that Kashmir is indeed the most dangerous place on Earth. Winds of Change present statistics that puts India on the top — for almost 46% of terrorism incidents in the world. Considering that Iraq is still festering insurgency incidents daily and Israel & Palestine aren’t making much of their so-called truce, the statistics are insightful in ways that drastically alter the world’s view of terrorism hot spots. Of course, statistics can lie and me postulating that Indian terrorism incidents occur mostly in Kashmir is contentious (we have other terrorist hot spots too, you know?). But anyone with a slight knowledge of the region will know that I am not too far from the truth.

The gravity of the situation in Kashmir and the ensuing ethnic cleansing [of Kashmiri Pundits] is greatly undermined by the Western media who seems to be preoccupied mostly with sporadic killings in Iraq or Palestine. Will this realign the media’s focus on terrorism hotspots? Probably not, because no American interest is vested in Kashmir or any other Indian areas prone to terrorism. Let the American ‘peace keepers’ intervene and thus let it become a question of American prestige, it will instantly zoom up in the media priorities.

How about floating a rumor that Bin Laden is now in Indian Kashmir and responsible for disrupting the Srinagar-Muzzafarabad bus service? Will America offer unconditional logistical support to India and honor us with a ‘major non-NATO ally’ tag? Or better still, sell us some clearly inferior F-16s and save another thousand jobs in Texas? No, thanks; we can handle our problems; or can we?

Whether America helps India or not, the poor Pandits have been rendered homeless anyway. My Uncle recently, after about 14 yrs, managed to buy an apt in Delhi after losing everything in Srinagar. My Mom still cries when she thinks of her house she’ll never see again that she grew up in. I am a Mumbaiya but can definitely understand the pain and hardships that my Kashmiri brethren had to go through. Whatever the Govt. does or doesn’t do now, it can never bring back those 14 yrs for my uncle and cousins. I don’t see a resolution anytime soon and to be very honest, don’t give a damn anymore.

Nami – I can only begin to imagine the pain and anguish your people must have to undergo. Reliance on America is useless unless the Indian government wakes up to the plight of its legal citizens. I still hope justice prevails sometime soon.

You know what Patrix, It’s in our own interests that America doesn’t interfere. If they do, do you even think they’ll support us? No thanks..is right!

Alpha – you are right! I also do not want America to interfere but somehow underplaying the terrorism in India rankles me no end.
