In College Station

I finally reached College Station last evening after an uneventful drive from Houston. I still don’t have net access at home but the campus seems to be wired enough. The last four days have been intensely hectic and of course, disconnected from the Internet. I had imagined I would drop dead if I go for 24 hours without checking my email/blog but fortunately(unfortunately) that didn’t happen. Of course, the sporadic connections I got where ever I went, be it the hotel we lived at or Ash’s family friends we lived with, or lurking on an open wireless connection at Ash’s new apartment, seemed to help me sustain a little longer. I should be getting my home Internet connection soon because everything seems to be online these days; right from directions to correspondence. Of course, I knew it all along but you have to be disconnected to feel the pinch.

Connectivity doesn’t seem to be a problem though. Schlotzsky’s Deli seems to have jumped on the free wifi bandwagon. There is a Schlotzskys bang opposite the campus. After wrapping up the essential things at school, I am enjoying my lunch and some free wireless right now. Strangely some bars also seem to have free wifi but surfing the web while sipping on beer might lead me to other websites inadvertently.

College Station first impressions? A typical college town with one major University Boulevard running on one side of the campus. Thankfully, I live just off that major road so the commute isn’t much. I walked and drove a little last evening checking out the regular must-have spots like the grocery store, Walmart, coffee shops, etc. Today morning I explored the campus (whatever my poor feet could handle) on foot. When I reached my department, I was relieved to find out that I had been granted a fellowship; so that took care of my tuition (the out-of-state part at least). I can breathe a little easy now.

I will not dwell too much on the description just yet because I will be doing that over the next couple of weeks anyway. Blogging on NEFA and DesiPundit (sorry folks if you have emailed me and I haven’t posted your referral links) will resume soon.

So, you have become an Aggie now. Welcome to Big12, where real football is played. This year Huskers won’t be playing A&M. But, I’ll be supporting the Longhorns when they play Aggies on the Thanksgiving Day. My wife already hates you. :)
