Too much advertising?

I have no grouse against advertising or even product placement. But this may be a bit too much:

"Tipping the scale at four pounds, the September issue of Vogue contains 691 ad pages beating last years record of 651." [via Adrants]

People are actually considering it a collector’s edition and buying it. I guess, the strangest things work in advertising. On the other hand, ads like these [mpeg link] don’t get any attention at all.

I pity the postman who has to deliver a bunch of them in an apartment complex !! How he/she must hate VOGUE. I wouldnt be surprised if a few subscribers didnt find their copies because they were dumped in the garbage….by the postman.

Arzan, I swear! but with 691 pages of ads I bet Vogue could have afforded UPS or FedEx.

The September issue of the Fashion Bible is an event in itself. New York Fashion week is in the middle of September, so along with the unveiling of fall/winter designer collections and campaigns, there are serious merchandising and promotional tie-ins for the magazine at that time.

Besides, Vogue isn’t exactly the bastion of serious hard hitting journalism, no one ever buys it for the articles.

Har, I haven’t read Vogue ever. Guess, I shouldn’t be commenting on its readership demographic then :)
