Back Home

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or email alerts. Thanks for visiting!

We are back in College Station and unfortunately have landed up with a bad bout of coughing and sniffling; Ash in particular has it really bad. I’m sure we picked up the bug in Bahrain and it was somewhat ironic considering we had survived the entire India trip without falling ill although people around us were biting the dust. To add to the agony, we realized that our fridge had conked off so even after having cleared out most of the perishables before leaving, it was a veritable petri dish in there. But considering I was expecting to find our home burgled or still worse, burned to the ground (I can be dramatically pessimistic), the fridge breaking down actually made me whoop with joy. The fridge was replaced immediately by the efficient apartment maintenance guys and we had soon stocked up with medicines to nurse our respective illnesses.

It wasn’t exactly the homecoming we were looking forward to but nevertheless we are glad to be home. Call it strange but coming back feels more like homecoming than going back to India. Don’t get me wrong; I love going back to India for short visits but perhaps after having spent a significant amount of my adult life in the U.S. and having set up a significant presence with reasonable possessions, this feels more like my own independent world.

The flight home was largely uneventful and thanks to the onboard entertainment system gone kaput, the ten-hour long flight from Frankfurt to Dallas refused to end. Thankfully, all flights left and arrived on time so we didn’t have any horror stories as our last time around. We were glad to see Rajith & Sampada at the Houston airport and crashed as early as 10. Classes and work start almost immediately on Monday so that hardly gives us any time to take a breath. I know, I owe a travelogue liberally peppered with the wedding details. I promise to deliver on that soon. Before I sign out, let me put out this classified ad here before I post it on Craigslist:

Just Married. Must sell encyclopedia. Wife knows everything.
