North Korea is literally begging to be invaded ahead of Bush-favorite Iran. They officially confirmed their nuclear intentions and withdrew from the six-party disarmament talks. But they can rest assured inspite of their desperate pleas to be noticed will fall flat. Condi, who is currently touring Europe on a State Department introductory visit said:
"We have for some time taken into account of the capacity of the North Koreans to perhaps have a few nuclear weapons," she said. "There is no definitive answer to how many, but this has been since the mid-’90s that the United States has assumed that the North Koreans could make such steps…Iran must live up to its international obligations to halt its nuclear program or the next steps are in the offing."
So why did we invade Iraq instead? Iran has not yet confirmed its nuclear capabilities but North Korea has. so why all the extra attention on Iran? Does North Korea’s sudden confession upset some clandestine war plans in the backrooms of the White House? North Korea can inflict greater damage because of its proximity to Japan, South Korea, and China. If any nation needs a regime change and is ripe for pre-emptive attack, it is North Korea. It always has been.
George Bush , however had other important things to take care of today. No direct comment from him yet. His press secretary, Scott McClellan preferred not to antagonize North Korea further and said:
"We remain committed to a peaceful diplomatic resolution to the nuclear issue with regards to North Korea…We’ve heard this kind of rhetoric from North Korea before…The six-party framework remains "the best and most effective way" to
try to persuade North Korea to end its program and to clear the way for
international acceptance of the Pyongyang government"
What? No pre-emptive action talk here? No smoking them out and bombing them back to stone age rhetoric? Donald Rumsfeld, on the other hand lives in his own La-La-Land - "he did not know whether North Korea had the weapons it claimed, but "one has to be concerned about it from a proliferation standpoint." Saddam must be definitely crying his heart out saying no one believed me when I told I had no weapons of mass destruction.
