My mom celebrated her birthday on the 15th; which birthday? Well, that is definitely a secret because she will wring my neck if I reveal her age. The worst thing you could do to get on their wrong side is to call them old. My mom has always loved to read my writing; even if it was a pathetic autobiography of an umbrella written in 7th standard. But she didn’t read my pathetic love letters (err…make that just one love letter and now that I think of it, it was anything but love…just sappy confessions of a deluded mind. Eeeeks!) or secret “journal” (I refuse to call it a dairy diary, which sounds awfully girly and nope, I didn’t have a tiny lock on my “journal”…just think of it as a paper blog) either. Thank heavens for that; I don’t know how many years of therapy I would have to endure to get over that.
She also wanted to read a letter that I sent to my friend who was all ready to quit his naval college. Incidentally that letter was intercepted by his commanding officer and in turn, I received a letter from him, asking me to keep writing such motivating letters to my friend. It turned out that he opened and read all my letters in the past to “keep a tab” on his trainee cadet; privacy be damned. My friend freaked out and I never wrote to him again. I bet his commanding officer missed reading my letters. But I digress.
So where was I? Ah, yes…my mom loves to read my writings. So now you must be wondering, does she know that I blog? Honestly, no she doesn’t. I know I have been a disappointing son. But I started this blog under different circumstances and only rank strangers knew of its existence. I wanted it to be my personal space without a prejudiced eye. You are right, my mom wouldn’t be prejudiced…in fact she would even like it if a particular post sucked big-time. But tell me, would you begin your writing jaunts knowing that your mom is reading it? But the fact of the matter was that it didn’t sound really “cool” at that time to confess that my parents read my blog. It was enough that I was still asking them for money occasionally. Anonymity has a certain charm…and I still couldn’t use the F work, if I knew my mom was listening (or reading). But now as I think back, I hardly use the F word or post anything dramatically insidious, so why keep my mom from reading her dear son’s written word. I guess after more than five hundred posts, I have somewhat mastered the art of writing sensible stuff without offending a whole lot of people (I think).
Finally, to conclude, on the shubh avsaar of her birthday (I am sure, no son has given a cheaper gift than this but it is not a gift) I am going to confess to my mom that I blog…after all, blog kiya toh darna kya, right? I’ll keep you guys posted on how it goes. In the meanwhile, be at your best behavior on my blog.
PS. On the other hand, I finally dropped the bomb about me and Ash. But that news had an expected reaction, so no great shakes there [read “no juicy details shall be revealed”].

Nupur - The 500 posts are not going anywhere…aaram se. Now why wouldn’t you let your mom read your blog? Hmmmm..have to check it out.
Toinks - And what about the thoughts that don’t count? never mind…PJ..sheeesh.
Leela - Damn! One typo and you are ever ready to jump on it. But I admit, it was a hilarious type; can be interpreted in “other” ways too ;)
Twilight Fairy - Yeah! I know how liberating your own personal space can be…and yup, thanks for pointing out the typo. I somehow always make that mistake, much to everyone’s merriment.
Alphaji - Aap humare blog par padhare, yeh humara saubhagya hai. Aapke naqsh kadam se humare blog khil utha…ok ok, enough hindi otherwise I might get nominated for the blog mela. Thanks for reminding “auntyji” about that heirloom, Ash has been pestering me about it for long now…hope that tilts the balance….and eeeeks! Ex wala secret was bw us..ab saari duniya jaanti hai.
PS. Why would I delete any of your comment?

M - It is actually more than just dating and remember what I had always told you, things may not always be as they seem. But thanks anyway. Pssst. you may have to read my post a lil bit more carefully henceforth.

Autobiography of an umbrella …hehe..I remember those assignments …autobiography of a coin, train, car and what not. The worst were to write those in hindi !
Alpha, WOT family heirloom ?! And ex ? Ex-what ?
Hmmmm.
Patrix, you’ve been hiding things from me.
Not good. Not good. Grrrr.
*miffed*
:D

contrary to P’s belief, me was ex-aggerating, Ash. Fear not, I was only an ex-girlfriend. Family heirloom is the Diary…and a dairy farm comes along with it.
February 17th, 2005 at 11:52 am reply
Ash - I guess Alpha is answering all the question. Note to myself: keep Alpha on the retainer for relationship counseling.
Alpha - the Diary-Dairy combination is totally awesome…or rather seems like a Aarey Milk Colony’s blog…sheeesh! I still can’t believe I wrote that and you are gonna “milk” it for all it is worth. Shyaay!
February 17th, 2005 at 12:10 pm reply
Alpha, dont worry, me fearless missy.
The diary is the heirloom ?! Sheesh. No thanks. Nahin chahiye. I have to listen to his badbad every day…why on earth would I want to read it too ?
Now, if only he had some interesting fantasies jotted in there…
:D

Dairy fantasies in his diary…most dreary, deary! milk or no milk.
tch tch, what all his mom had to be subjected to…and going to be subjected to: future mom-in-law reading mushy posts of kid’s Pjs in future daughter-in-law’s blog.
I can see a post shaping up for my own neglected blog. No aunty, I have no such blog.
February 17th, 2005 at 1:04 pm reply
Lol @ Alpha :D
Arre yaar, I bashfully admit that I’m pretty senti, but come on, the posts on his Pjs arent mushy !!
And I bet Aunty will be relieved that there are some other warped souls in this world, who find her laadla son amusing :)

“Hilarious type”
Didn’t you mean typo?
(Admit it, you’re just making these typos to make me happy.)
“Interpreted in ‘other’ ways”
Really? I couldn’t think of any. Maybe it’s another of those girly traits.
February 18th, 2005 at 12:54 pm reply
Leela - Now I am not even sure what I meant…do you have this kind of effect on everyone? ;)
February 21st, 2005 at 12:48 am reply
well like M said.. even I just came across ‘Ash’ in a post where you wrote about “reason # xxxxx - why your “girlfriend” shouldn’t know about your blog”… basically the introduction was rather subtle..instead of a blogpost entirely and I was also expecting an elaborate post about Lady love :p :)
