United States - an economic burden?

If you’re new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or email alerts. Thanks for visiting!Right from the title, I honestly do not know what the author of this column is trying to say. Extrapolating a teen pregnancy pact in some obscure small town to labeling one of the most productive [...]

Neglecting Margin of Error

More in media election coverage bashing, yesterday Chris Matthews was talking about differences in support for Obama and McCain among women or more particularly suburban women. He had a graphic up on the screen with Obama’s photo captioned with “Woman Trouble?” Now what is seen as a part of increased media scrutiny toward media networks, [...]

The Terror Fist Bump

Heard of Fox News’ ridiculous terror alert for Mr.and Mrs. Obama’s fist bump? I guess, George Bush senior is a terrorist fist jabber too. Media Matters has compiled a gallery of similar fist bumps asking Fox News if the people featured are terrorists as well.
I don’t understand how can a news anchor get away by [...]

Racism Watch for Chris Matthews

After being clearly guilty of sexism toward Hillary Clinton, Chris Matthews is placed on racism watch given some of his statements against Obama. Matthews, IMO, is caught in a time warp from the 60s and 70s and often seems at a loss to comment on latest political trends.

Media’s Sexist Behavior toward Hillary Clinton

“Clearly, in an age when the dangers and indignities of Driving While Black are well-acknowledged, and properly condemned, Striving While Female – if it goes too far and looks too real — is still held to be a crime.”
An excellent post on Clinton’s treatment by the media by Judith Warner. Mind you, the Obama campaign [...]

Pragati Magazine Cover

One of the coolest magazine covers ever [PDF link]. You can judge the content of this book by its cover. Excellent content as always.

Sanjaya and Shyamali in Mumbai

It is Malakar time again. This blog has been an avid proponent of the Malakrazy phenomenon that swept the United States a year ago. Thanks to the original Malakar fan, I was informed that Sanjaya Malakar and his sister Shyamali were in Mumbai, returning to India after nearly a decade or as Sanjaya puts its, [...]

Which content is popular on the Internet?

NY Times is a reputed news source not only in the print media but also on the Internet. The name notwithstanding, the paper is the closest America has to a national daily (USA Today is a paper for travelers with pretty graphics and Wall Street Journal has a distinct business and economics slant). In spite [...]

The Drag Race

So it is yet another Super Tuesday. Honestly, it doesn’t take much to make a Tuesday super these days. In India, Angarika could be safely considered as one especially if you are a Siddhivinayak bhakt but across the pond, it just takes two states to head to the polls. Folks on the cable news networks [...]

Condoms not useful for HIV prevention?

Political coverage in the United States especially on the 24-hour news channels has reached ridiculous levels. Since the next (important) primary is more than three weeks away, these 24-hour news channels have to dig up inane stuff to talk about. For instance, yesterday on MSNBC show called The Race to the White House [a welcome [...]

Media Coverage and Federal Spending

“Federal spending is lower in areas where there is less press coverage of the local members of Congress.” Interesting. I would’ve expected the opposite considering that legislators might want to sneak in earmarks if no one is watching over them [via MR].

HBO takes its content online

In a great move that indicates moving ahead with the times, HBO announced that it would soon offer all of its content online. Of course, being the premium channel it will not offer this content for free. In a much easier way to weed out freeloaders, you will be able to see this online content [...]

Changing Bollywood

Interesting article in Newsweek on how Ronnie Screwvala (UTV) is bringing Bollywood out from the shadows of those sappy Yash Chopra romantic comedies. As Prem notices, the commenters from Rediff seem to have migrated to Newsweek as soon as they saw an India-related article. Are we really that petty? Sheesh.

Content Aggregation - The Channel [V] way

Blogging is hard work; no wonder almost 90% of the blogs that are created never go beyond the ‘Hello World’ post and 99% of the blogs aren’t updated more than once a month. Yet those 1-10% of blogs still number in the millions giving rise to popularity of content aggregation or meta-filtering like Digg, Reditt, [...]

Posing Blogs as Letters to the Editor

The beauty of the whole thing is that Dr. Adarsh Bhargav thought no one would notice and he would never get caught.
