Five Years of Blogging

If you’re new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or email alerts. Thanks for visiting!Things have been a tad busy around here. So much so that I missed mentioning completing five years of my nerve endings firing away (hopefully they’ve been firing much long than that). Blogging has definitely been [...]

Becoming a Blogging Celebrity

How to become a blogging celebrity? Earn a six-figure blogging income and then announce it to the world. No word on how to earn that kinda income first. Digital Inspiration’s quality content notwithstanding, I’m sure Amit Agarwal too owes his fame partly to the fact that being a full-time professional blogger in India is a [...]

Blogger Intimidation

Typical scenario in the blogosphere - blogger finds content ripped off the blog and posted on some random portal and complains to a portal citing content theft from her blog. The usual reaction from portals is ignoring the complaint and probably quietly removing the content. The best case scenario is pleading ignorance, apologizing, and removing [...]

Macaca in Denver

Congratulations to Sepia Mutiny for getting credentialed at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver. Thanks to their tireless efforts, there will finally be a desi presence [from the blogosphere] at the national stage in American politics. Let’s hope they don’t have to cover a brokered convention.

No Country for Gay Men

A parody of the creepiest scene from No Country for Old Men where Javier Bardem is overdubbed by a very gay male voice. Hilarious! Would he have got an Oscar if he played the character gay, like Joey asks his student to do in Friends?

Recounting that November

This Sunday, we saw the made-for-TV movie, Recount on HBO. This docu-drama reflected on the events from the chaotic November of the 2000 Presidential Elections. Starring Kevin Spacey, Dennis Leary, Laura Dern among other individuals, this movie looked back at the mess following the election on November 7th right through the events until the U.S. [...]

Jackie Chan Fight Scenes

One of the best time-pass activities of all time - watching Jackie Chan in those awesomely choreographed fight sequences that last forever. You may not have watched the preceding part of the movie and may not watch the rest of the movie but those fight sequences are paisa vasool. Here are a fan’s top ten [...]

Customizing Viewing Ads

Since I’ve been fiddling around at the backend of this blog in midst of revamping the look, I managed to clean up my plugins directory. Although WordPress by itself is a robust blogging engine, the availability of plugins helps enhance the experience and extend its capabilities. One of the plugins that I installed is PlanetOz’s Who [...]

List of Book Reviews in the sidebar

I have listed and reviewed books I’ve read in My Library at Google Book Search. The list has a RSS feed too. Any idea how to list the five recently reviewed books in my sidebar without using WordPress widgets?

Change in Theme Design

After resisting for more than a year, I finally gave in and changed my theme last night. The previous one had served me well and I persisted with it primarily due to several customizations I had made. But it was getting too clunky and boring. And I wasn’t blogging regularly so why not tinker around [...]

Jingle Mein Mingle

The age of advertising jingles is unfortunately past us and current advertising campaigns merely use soundtracks from established recording artistes. Sometimes advertisers may choose to use relatively unknown soundtracks like in the ads by Apple or Geico which in turn boosts the song’s popularity. But using original ad jingles have declined even to the extent [...]

Selling your Twitter account on eBay

Rocketboom founder, Andrew Baron is selling his twitter account with nearly 1,666 followers (at last count) on eBay. The highest bid right now is $1550 [via MR's Markets in Everything] I hope the buyer knows that those followers can depart in an instant. Chances are that most won’t and will continue to get updates from [...]

Vote Up Plugin

If you notice carefully, the bottom of every non-asides post (unlike this one), you’ll see a tiny bar with the word ‘Vote’ underneath. Clicking on that link lets you give a thumbs-up for that post. The feature is thanks to a plugin called Vote it Up. There is also an option to enable a vote [...]

Blogger Salaries

It seems that bloggers on the flagship Gawker site get $7.50 per thousand pageviews and considering the amount of pageviews Gawker site(s) generate, contributing bloggers are making quite a bit. Nope, we don’t have a similar model on DesiPundit :)
