Ever notice how easy it is to dish out advice on handling adversity when you are not experiencing it yourself? I understand how you feel – is the most abused consolation because clearly they don’t.

About dishing out advice…I don’t agree with your statement. What would you rather have the person do? Go through that experience to justify his comment? I mean, what’s the alternative to saying that? I feel some form of consolations are better than no consolations or brutally brunt ones …no matter how repeatedly used.

  2. Patrix Says:

Yogu - Nope, I don’t agree. Consoling may not always work. Sometimes ppl just say things which they never mean..its better not hearing those things, I feel.

Clutter of the week

Did you notice that the latest iMac G5 from Apple was available for $110 for couple of hours at Amazon on Tuesday?

Amazon was quick to rectify that glitch but couple of my roomies quickly ordered two of them in that brief window. Now, they hoped that Amazon will reward them for being alert. Rumor has it that Delta was forced to honor its commitment after an hour-long glitch in their website offered India tickets for $70. Few desis were alert enough to grab half a dozen tickets in that period. Alas, it wasn’t to be. Their order got cancelled in an apologetic email. Too bad!

Terrorists love proclaiming that they have a cause they are willing to die and kill for. Will someone tell them that it makes more sense to have a cause they would rather live for?

Clutter of the week

end_bush_code One of the best protest signs I have seen during the Republican Convention. I bet a techie was holding that up.

I finally figured out the way to uninstall Oracle from my burdened laptop. Stupid me, I missed the obvious. Now I have enough disk space to swim around.

Yay! A Super-Target is opening soon right down the road from my apartment complex. Should I sell my car now? After paying through my nose for some “urgent” repairs, I guess not.

More proof that Hrithik is gay. All you female fans – eat your heart out :)

Stamps.com has launched Photo.Stamps.com where you can upload your own images and print real stamps. Being on a postage stamp is no longer considered prestigious? Damn.

The Olympics are here at last. Yay! Check out Scott’s blog as he enjoys being in Phelps’ shadow at Athens; an insider look at being at the Olympics.

Stamp collection is passe then… Patrix, you can be the proud single owner of the ‘Patrix blog series’ stamps:-)

  2. Patrix Says:

Aar - LOL. If I was a egoistic maniac, then I would.

  3. alpha Says:

that’s why Aar even came up with that idea, you see. Ok seriously, imagine 300 years from now kids going…yo! Do you have that rare stamp of Patrix digging his big nose with a shovel? I sooo want that for my Patrix collection.

  4. Patrix Says:

Alpha - seems like ur paparazzi profession of capturing my rare moments is not taking off quite well.

  5. Aaar Says:

And some wise guy had advised about investing in stamps instead of stocks… Any buyers for my collection?

  6. Leela Says:

Digging his nose with a shovel!!! Really, Alphs what will you come up with next? Ok, don’t answer that. :-)

Btw, Patrix know of any sites where one can palm off a slightly mildewing stamp collection?

  7. Patrix Says:

Aar - Never trust a wise guy..one little site with an overpriced service and you are ready to sell your hobby?

Leela - now now, you know more than to trust Alpha on her utterances…and am no stamp-collector, so mildew or not..am no help there.

  8. Aaar Says:

Was browsing through news sites in internet. No one has mentioned about the 10 member(or was it less?) indian contingent for the parade. Even some unknown ‘micronesia’ had a bigger contingent.

  9. Patrix Says:

Aar - Wonder where the rest of the 77 athletes were languishing..Olympics is usually a depressing time for Indian sports..so lets just enjoy the rest.

  10. m Says:

scotts blog was an interesting link………

  11. Patrix Says:

M - Glad to forward a nice link anyday

Clutter of the week

How does the Cosmopolitan always have some Sex advice article screaming on its cover, month after month? Aren’t they telling everything or aren’t people simply reading more carefully?

Have you finally formed your own identity when your dad is introduced as your father instead of you being introduced as his son?

I want to strengthen our alliances and seek partnerships to fight the war on terror” – John Kerry.
I will not surrender the decision of America’s national defense to other countries” – George Bush.

Both lines draw an equally enthusiastic response. No wonder the voter is confused. It reminds me of P.L Deshpande’s hilarious lines “mala saglanchich maate pattat” (I agree with everyone’s opinions).

Clutter of the week

Have you seen the number of pillows of any bed advertised in a furnishing catalog? I never have understood the need to pile on gazillion cushions which only make the bed look smaller and in a normal home, no one does so either. Anyone aware of the reason for such weird gimmicks?

The educational process at MIT is often described as “trying to drink from a hose”. A case of information overload or an endless source of knowledge? I prefer to believe the latter.

When faced with a dilemma, the question that we must ask ourselves is not “why” but rather “why not?” This might solve all moral and pragmatic problems too.

8 pillows on my bed……….for two people- and we use them all…….and eight cushions on our sofa…….we use six……..five pillows on my 10 year olds bed- he uses all- i guess we do live in the land of waste……..i cant imagine doing this in India.

  2. Patrix Says:

M - How? How do you use them? I put one under my head, sometimes not even that…thats it.

  3. Spaceman Says:

You’d never know when you get the mood in bed!!….for a pillow fight, I meant ;)

  4. Patrix Says:

Spaceman - If you can think of only a pillow fight on bed, I feel sorry for you Spacey :)

  5. thinktank... Says:

To know the use of all those pillows and what to do with them (eventually), go watch ‘Along came Polly’. :)

  6. m Says:

……..first you have to be a spendthrift……..frugal people just wont get it…….second……..second- i guess you have to be married………….third…….third your cool factor has to be way up there…………(just kidding and pulling your leg this morn……)

  7. Sabra Says:

I think the MIT slogan is more like “getting an education through a firehose.” Incidentally, that’s the exact reason I didn’t complete my application process there. It most certainly means information overload.
…And I have 4 pillows on my bed. One under my head, one over my head to block out any light and two to balance the one over my head at just the right height so I can still breathe. :D

  8. Patrix Says:

Thinktank- hmmmm.now u are going make me watch a movie for a simple question.
M - LOL! don’t have to be married to share a bed and that doubles the cool factor. But now spendthrift is a problem…hmmm.
    Sabra - U sleep in a pillow castle?? :)

  9. Sabra Says:

LOL! I never thought of it as a pillow castle. The boyfriend is always calling me a princess, so I guess that fits!
By the way, “Along Came Polly” is worth seeing if , for nothing else, the basketball game scene with the fat furry guy. Look for it…

  10. Patrix Says:

Sabra - Now you have a name for your assortment of pillows :) I have seen bits and part of ACP..have seen the game scene..yuck!

PS.dunno why I thought of you as a guy..maybe the name threw me off…Sabri would be a better fit ;)

  11. Sabra Says:

Sabra means cactus flower in Hebrew and is a feminine noun. It’s a term used for a native-born Israeli. :)

  12. Patrix Says:

Sabra - Woah! thats deep. But thanks for the extra info.
