FeedBurner, that excellent web service and a must-have for all bloggers serious about keeping an eye on your stats has become all free [hat tip: Piker]. Previously paid services like MyBrand and FeedBurner Stat Pro are now free. Why? Well, after being bought over by Google they can afford to. But of course, by availing of all the free services offered by FeedBurner, you are providing priceless information to Google on the browsing habits of your readers. However, if you want to keep Google from prying into your readers feed browsing behavior you might have to opt out of FeedBurner services. But considering the wealth of information you get for using FeedBurner, it is going to difficult.
More than 450,000 blogs some of which are huge use FeedBurner for redirecting their feeds. I had previously availed of the PRO package for DesiPundit and had contemplated resubscribing since almost half of DesiPundit readers use feeds to keep a tab on the content. If you are wondering what extra does PRO offer that the basic services didn’t offer, here is a quick summary:
PRO is feed analytics taken to the next level. You will now have access to the number of people who have viewed or clicked individual content items in your feed and “Reach,” which estimates the daily number of subscribers who interacted with your feed content.
Now I just have to try and resist going back to checking the stats every hour and considering I already do it with my Mint counters, getting an additional stat service doesn’t help.

Interesting title you’ve given to the post. Ever considered applying to ToI? :)

Piker, ToI in fact might just hire me considering their ‘lax’ standards.

I for one am not that happy with google take over of feedburner. If this turns out to be another turkey like Measuremap, then sadly we’ll have lost yet another good independent data analytics company. Hopefully feedburner doesnt go the Measuremap way.

Google does it again .. Anyways, it will be free BUT google will monetize it with it’s trademark advertising soon :)

Blogulate, I’m sure they are more interested in the stats than monetizing it. Difficult to monetize it anyway.
