Freeze !!!

Is that El Nino at work or winter is finally wrapping its slender chilly fingers around our poor souls? Temperatures plunge and the days of leaving home without catching the daily forecast on the Weather Channel or any freaking website that has the Fahrenheit five-day updates, are over. Jackets, wind cheaters, sweaters, monkey caps (why the name?), scarves, mufflers are dusted out from their hibernating hideouts and cockroaches depart their summer homes hurriedly to avoid being squashed to a pulp by an incoming chappal. Winter fashions herald the trend of layered clothing and adapting to the trends is frankly not a choice that we have.

But I really hate the thermal wear thing that we, FOB students always lug in our suitcases when we come to America, even if we are going to a blazing Florida university. I made the mistake of wearing it once in my novice first semester Atlanta winter. I nearly got roasted halfway through the class and sweated buckets before the professor gave me a weird look as I shrugged sheepishly. I could literally prance home half-naked in the frigid cold after I got out of that icky thermal suit.

Temperatures are at an all-time low these days in the usually warm Atlanta weather and the wind chill doesn’t help matters much. But I would prefer the cold weather over the sticky summer any day.

There is a limit to me shedding clothes in the heat as compared to number of layers I can put on in the chilly weather (yup, I learnt that putting layers of clothes *on* your shirt is as effective as under it). Also I think I look much better in thick overalls than a simple cotton T-Shirt. The jury is still out on the opinions from the opposite sex so I am free to make my own presumptions. The warm fuzzy feeling that goes with stepping inside the warm confines of your home and sipping hot chocolate is a notch above sipping a coolatta in the backyard pool. Drinking brandy is a medical excuse rather than an evil vice. The frequent pee trips give the added bonus of experiencing the second-best feeling (don’t ask which is the first) in the world over and over again. Playing in snow is way better than tossing hot sand balls. The joys of the holiday season hits a purple patch, kicking off with Halloween, wading into Thanksgiving and ending with a bang with Christmas and New Years.

Cheer up, guys…winter is here to stay (for at least a few months).
