The extent of depending on technology even for the most mundane tasks is amazing. Forget to get that carton of juice or just lazy enough to jot it down on that notepad magneted (yup, I made that up) on the fridge? Fret not, Grocist pops up to your rescue thanks to the Web 2.0 hoopla. You need on your cluttered kitchen platform is a computer with a barcode scanner, baaas! I have to think twice before getting a new coffee maker let alone a scanner which is easily replaceable by a notepad in a drawer. And try wiping the curry stains off that [via Lifehacker].

Orchid, I liked the concept. But only if we didn’t need to hook up a laptop or a PC on the kitchen counter, it would work.

I am sure they could make the scanner a stand alone device like the UPS/fedex guys or even some grocery stores carry - then bluetooth/wirelessly send the list to your PC. Even better - integrate the scanner to a kitchen cabinet or the fridge ! you could even set a reminder for when to get milk ! :-)

Bongo, yup! I was thinking on the same lines. If it came with a mobile scanner wirelessly connected to the PC, it would be perfect.
