In Bahrain

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or email alerts. Thanks for visiting!

So finally I reached Bahrain after taking a rather hectic and circuitous route via three airports; not too pleasant airports I might add. We land in Bahrain and find out that our bags have decided to extend their vacation in Paris; checking out the Louvre, I presume. I am sitting here in Ash’s dad’s PJs (nooo! he isn’t wearing them) and that certainly isn’t a great way to start off your relationship with your future in-laws. But I guess that definitely beats sitting around in your stinky clothes bearing the smell of three smelly airports. By the way, talking of smelly airports I realize that Paris now has a ‘brown’ section in their airport complex. Either that or they have just relegated all the Middle Eastern airlines to a ramshackle, dirty, and stained exposed concrete oddity that is passed off as an international terminal. To top that off, the ground crew is not too pleasant either. They just assume you are French. What? my brown skin doesn’t tip you off? I should have just used my imitation of ghaati Marathi to respond, kay ruh! tu kay bolte mala thav nai!

Now Ash’s mom is a regular reader of my blog, as I found out. Eeeks! she knows things about me that maybe even my mom doesn’t have an inkling of, not sure whether that’s a good thing or not. So as you might have guessed, I’ll have only good things to say about them. Nah! I’m kidding. They have made me feel right at home although ‘home’ still is 3 time zones away. I guess, now I can start calling this home too. I have quite a schedule planned and it feels great to be amongst family. I just had the most scrumptious breakfast in ages and the smell of the mutton curry wafting in through the stairwell as I write this makes me wish that dinner time comes sooner than expected. More to follow soon.

good to know that u reached….if only for a pit stop.

Being in a similar boat as yours vis a vis “future inlaws”…..my take on that is…the sooner u drop the in-law part, the easier it is to bond…and all of a sudden u have two sets of parents…and that means, double the outpouring of love, but also double the “brickbats” too….and its a nice feeling.

am sure u will notice that in the days to come.

aah.. which 3 airports were these? and you bet.. Paris in general is effectively the same as India in the smells department!

BTW it’s always a good idea to carry a spare change in one’s hand baggage :).. see, now you gave me the opportunity to coin something like this :
    1 set of spare clothes - 50$
1 air ticket to Bahrain - xxx $

the look on patrix’s face when he’s in his FIL’s pyjama - priceless :D

Doesn’t Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) too lose his baggage when he goes to meet his girlfriend’s parents in Meet the Parents? :-) I wonder if this is a sign of things to come…

Simple Simon, sorry dude! no mutton curry for you…it’s all mine.

Arzan, yup! I am already getting a feel of the things to come and it has been great so far. Good luck to you too

Twilight, the airports would be Houston, Newark, Paris, and finally Bahrain. Paris is the worst though by a far margin. And yeah yeah go ahead laugh on my poor self…I am sure you’ll face something similar when time comes.

Varun, I was ready to bolt when bags didn’t arrive but Ash was freaking out more so I had to keep my calm.

My husband, then boyfriend, had to wear my dad’s clothes when he first came to stay and it all worked out, so don’t worry. Hope your clothes have come back from their trip to Paris (lucky them).
