I am at my wits end. I know, I should be more concerned about writing on my blog than its administration. But the fussy me cannot help it. I am not sure if you have noticed it but this blog is taking an inordinate amount of time to load. And in a strange way too. As soon as you enter the URL and hit enter, it remains stagnant on “Waiting for ipatrix.com to respond” for almost 6-7 seconds before it actually starts loading. However once it does, it completes loading within 2-3 seconds.
I have tried everything to fix this including reversing any changes I did to the blog backend since the problem started. That includes disabling several plugins including the Top Commentors one (I want to bring it back though) and removing all but the most essential javascripts in the header like the Reinvigorate Stats and Kontera Ads. But the problem persists with no change whatsoever. The hosting provider has confirmed that the problem isn’t at their end.
Upon investigation I feel that the problem isn’t in the templates because I changed it to a generic one without all fancy-schmancy stuff and yet it delayed the loading time. I hate that after preaching that your website should load inside of 4 seconds my website takes more than double that time.
Let me know if you have any idea of what’s going on.
Update: Sheeesh. Moments after I write this post I figure out what’s wrong. It was the Clean Archives plugin. It was making unnecessary database queries and was fixed a day after I downloaded the plugin. Sheeesh! (but whew!) Just like the story of my life - I get the answer just after I have asked for help.
Also, Paul Benetis finds out (the hard way) how not activating Akismet, now the default plugin with Wordpress Core, can bring your blog to a grinding halt.
