The Government and the industry did later clamp down on his statement and make him retract. So, maybe we shouldn't generalize one person's views for the entire government. It is unfortunate that the lynching and the comment occurred, but part of being a democracy is that we need to take the good with the bad. There are people who are ready to kill and unfortunately they have a say in governance as well.

@Anil: Trade unions are fine but sadly most of them degenerate into goonda organizations. Guess power does that to you. I would like to hear what happened to you but can understand if its too personal.

@sqrl: violence sadly is excused under justifiable reasons. So much for Gandhi and his ahimsa teachings.

Haven't seen Wednesday yet.

Happened to catch this on NDTV, and the anchor, in an attempt to 'balance the reports' actually asked if this was a reason of 'hire and fire' policies of new companies. I don't understand how anyone in their right minds might try to rationalize something like this.

Slightly related, I don't know if you've seen it, but the praise lauded upon the movie 'Wednesday' is in fact scary to me.

More than socialist, it is 'trade union' minds. Having personally faced mobs, though not bigger than 50 people at a time, I can graphically imagine what he must have faced. Believe me, it can be very, very scary and very ugly. This post just triggered some old memories.
