The world’s richest man, Bill Gates appeared on Jon Stewart’s Daily Show last night to promote the launch of Windows Vista. The Daily Show interviews are always fun to watch because they are so different and the guests also are more relaxed that lets them joke around too. After Jon asked Bill what does the F12 key do [launches the SaveAs dialog in Office apps], Bill suggested he started at the beginning and move up gradually and also touted Vista’s parental control attributes for Jon’s parents. Jon freely admitted not knowing much about computers but Bill graciously asked him to call him up if he ran into any problems. Of course, he was joking and knowing Windows releases, he would be calling him more often than not. Bill also has a typical kid-like nerdy laughter. But he has always been a quirky character - the original nerd.
However, that is not what makes this interview special. As soon as the interview concluded, Bill left in a hurry that left even Jon Stewart speechless and made him remark, that he is a very busy man. The cameras were still rolling as the commercial break was coming on but we could see Bill get up, shake Jon’s hand and turn his back walking away even before the show cut for commercials. Admittedly, he is a busy man and was flying to London for the Vista launch there but would hanging around a few more seconds make him reach any quicker?
Hmmmm…I guess anything that keeps the buzz going is good. But Bill would rather have the buzz for Vista than him leaving the building in a hurry. Tongues are already wagging in the valley on the Gates apparent lack of protocol or courtesy [pics and video available].

hehe. just saw the link.. i think it was more of an awkward moment thing.. rather than him wanting to leave in such a hurry..(though he probably didnt mind it) Noticed that his ass left the chair as his hand extended, the way it would normally work if you were leaving someones office..probably was a lil confused.. :D
in any case, body language can say so much more than words, isn’t it?

For once, I don’t blame him. He’s a true nerd. No pretensions about whatsoever. If someone would ask him about this, he’d probably apologize, and say please don’t be offended, I just forgot. I wonder why everybody is making this a big deal.

Now I get it!

Sqrl, yeah…especially the way he shook Jon’s hand while standing up. It was actually a funny moment and says a lot about the nervousness he feels while facing a talk show host.
Chetan, yup and I bet that makes him even more endearing to his fans. I never thought it to be rude or offensive and just attribute it to Bill’s quirky nature. That’s what makes him special.
Q.E.D, kya karein, I’ve to ’state the obvious’ for people like you :) Explains why I may never win the Indiblog of the Year.

Hey!! there is such a thing as “opportuniy cost” you know. Even the time lag between ass on the seat and ass in the air is worth a few thousand dollars I bet, so cut the guy some slack! Haven’t watched the video yet :)

Orchid, know that joke…If Bill drops a $100 bill he will make more money by not picking it up.
