The results from Nikon’s Small World Photo Competition are out. I was lucky enough to see some entries displayed at Fernbank Museum, Atlanta. They are pretty cool; the microscopic world is more colorful than you thought.

Ravi Jain has a nifty weekly video blog, narrated from the driver’s seat of his car. He shoots this episode during this daily commute between Jamaica Plains and Allston, MA.

I saw this awesome 2-minute short, Earth to America starring Jack Black. The short aims to raise global warming awareness, the short stars Black, doing his usual shtick, as an attorney who sues corporate America on behalf of the nation’s children. I almost thought it was a sequel to School of Rock. Wouldn’t it be great if it was? Maybe I should pitch it to Hollywood.

If nothing else, India will be the first one to take notice of “criminalizing politics”  in the democratic world. It wasn’t until 1988 when an op-ed by Paul Craig Roberts mentioned it that it made its way into American terminology. After Scooter Libby’s indictment, it is pretty commonplace.

Putting the “fun” back in science. And you thought science wasn’t “stimulating”? Forget fun, ever been in a situation shopping for lingerie for your significant other? A Dutch designer has a brainwave that might make embarrassing shopping actually more fun.

Maybe the Indian policy makers ought to keep this advice in mind; reforming religion works best when it comes from within.

halfsigma.com is registered under my real name, but just because you can look up my name and address does that mean that what I write is the “real” me?

I never really understood why some people were so mad at me for the Libertarian Girl hoax. Didn’t they enjoy reading the blog? Was the blog suddenly less enjoyable because they learned that they blog’s author was not a young hot blond girl? (A hypothetical question, obviously blogs written by hot young blonde women are more enjoyable based on how many more readers Libertarian Girl had compared to Half Sigma, even though a lot more effort went into Half Sigma.)
